Weighing your pet

Obesity is a common problem in both cats and dogs and can contribute to several health problems such as arthritis, diabetes, heart and respiratory conditions. We all know how important it is not to allow our pets to gain weight but sometimes the waistline of your pet can increase over time and it’s these slow changes that are less easy to spot. Most overweight patients simply need a more suitable diet in order to lead a slimmer, healthier life. You can bring your pet in at any time to have them weighed, their weight can be logged on the system and we can access graphs and charts showing any changes in their weight overtime. These weighings will also help us when dosing wormers, flea treatment, and any other medication for your pet. They are free of charge and can be done at any time by any member of staff, so please fell free to bring your pet in to be weighed!

Quarantine and pet passports

We are able to do the vaccines and blood tests required for expoting or travelling with your pet, however the requirements of each country often differ, so for more advice contact DEFRA on:01452 627 400.

Spotting Health Problems

Our pets cannot tell us when they are feeling unwell, but there are some things we can all look out for to ensure their quality of life. Many serious problems begin as subtle changes of behaviour, such as increased thirst, reluctance to exercise, avoiding bright light and many more. Cats in particular will often only show chronic pain by becoming quiet and withdrawn. The most important thing to remember is that changes in behaviour occur for a reason, and frequently will indicate a health problem. In our experience, if an owner is worried that their pet is 'just not right', they have usually picked up a problem, which most often, can be treated.
Many pets slow down as they get older, just as we do, but any marked behaviourial changes should be checked by one of our vets.
